What is Mindset, and Why is Mindset Everything?

Alright, so think of a mindset as your mental default setting—the way you generally see and approach things. It’s like the pair of glasses you wear, but in your brain. This mindset isn’t set in stone; it can evolve based on your experiences and what you choose to focus on. In other words, you don’t have to keep looking at life through dark and dusty lenses. You can swap those for rosier-colored glasses! This isn’t just “think positive” either…
You might have a “growth mindset,” which means you believe that with effort and learning, you can get better at pretty much anything. On the flip side, a “fixed mindset” is when you figure, “Well, I am what I am, and that’s that.” (If that’s where you are, stick with me!)
It shapes how you tackle challenges, view failures, and deal with life’s curveballs. If you’re aware of your mindset, you can actually shift it around, kind of like adjusting those mental glasses to frame things more positively and powerfully.

Unfortunately, most of us women 50+ are from generations where society taught us to be less, to accept less, that we deserved less. (A total lie, BTW!) Not a great foundation for good mental health and well being! (Check out, How Society Damaged Me (And Probably You, Too!)

The mindset plays a super important role in shaping your experiences in all different aspects of your life. Here’s why developing a growth mindset is everything for women over 50+! (And, you can change your mindset!)

A positive mindset empowers women by giving them confidence in their abilities. Believing in yourself is the first step in changing. A woman with a positive mindset is more likely to pursue opportunities, take risks, and assert herself in life. So, imagine this: You’re the boss lady of your own life. Having a positive mindset is like giving yourself a daily pep talk. It boosts your confidence, making you feel like you can conquer anything life throws your way.


Bouncing Back from Life’s Curveballs:

Life’s got its fair share of plot twists, right? A positive mindset is like having a bounce-back attitude. It’s not about dodging the hurdles but doing that cool superhero landing every time you face one. Women with a positive mindset view challenges as opportunities for growth rather than a high jump they can’t hurdle. This allows you to navigate through difficult times with grace and determination.


Breaking Stereotypes and Doing You:

Forget the rulebook! This is all about giving a high-five to breaking stereotypes. You want that career at 70? Go for it. Wanna rock that hobby where everyone says, “Aren’t you too old to do that?” Absolutely! It’s your script, write it your way.  I can hear your inner critic telling you “it’s too late.” I call bull. It Is Not Too Late. Burn that into your brain!

Mindset is Everything in Healthy Relationships:

Relationships can be tricky, but a positive mindset turns you into a relationship ninja. You bring the good vibes, communicate like a champ, and navigate through the occasional emotional rollercoaster with style. Mindset can seriously determine the quality of your relationships. Women with a positive or growth mindset tend to rock healthier connections with others.


Wellness Warrior Mode:

The mind-body connection is science. We know this now as hard facts! Picture this: A positive mindset is like putting on your superhero cape for your health. You eat well, hit the gym (or not, because Netflix), and manage stress like a pro. It’s all about feeling good inside and out. This boosts your overall well-being.


Rocking That #BossLady Vibe:

Yep, I know most of us want to retire, like yesterday. But maybe you aren’t ready yet? Or maybe you still need to bring home some bacon? Boss lady alert! A positive mindset is your backstage pass to career success. You set those goals high, take charge, and dance through challenges like nobody’s business. No matter what your age! If you can dream it, you can find a way to do it! One of my readers started a blog on the state of the world, full of news, and commentary and inspiration… And my friends, she is 88. I feel all warm inside when I tell that story!


Mind and Mood Connection:

Your mind and mood are like BFFs. A positive mindset is like the ultimate mood-boosting playlist. It helps you keep the good vibes flowing and shake off the blues. Women who make mental well-being a priority and adopt positive thinking patterns can better handle the stress, anxiety, and depression that creep into so many of our lives.

Identify a challenge you faced today and note how you approached it with a growth mindset.

Learning Moments:

List three things you learned recently and how they contribute to your personal growth.

Overcoming Obstacles:

Reflect on a recent setback and outline steps you can take to overcome it.

Effort Recognition:

Highlight a task where you put in significant effort, regardless of the outcome, and recognize your dedication.

Mindset Affirmations:

I am resilient, and challenges make me stronger.

Feedback is a tool for growth, and I welcome it with an open mind.

Obstacles are hidden opportunities; I face them with courage.

My effort is halfway to success, and it counts.

I inspire and support others on their journey of growth.

Set a goal to learn a new skill or gain knowledge in a specific area.

Identify a fear or discomfort and commit to facing it with a growth mindset.
