How to Feel Confident Over 50 in Just 10 Minutes

I fell into a deep depression. That’s how my 50s started out. Learning how to feel confident over 50 wasn’t something that came easily to me. I didn’t even realize at the time that aging had a lot to do with how I was feeling. Or at least, what I had been taught about aging. Confidence isn’t something finite- that you have or you don’t. And it can wax and wane over the years too. I mean, being an aging woman alone is enough to shake one’s confidence!

If you’re a woman over 50 looking to feel more self-assured, there are ways to change your mindset and build your confidence. But for those days when you just need a quick pick me up, I came up with a list of how to feel confident over 50, in just 10 minutes. You can boost your confidence and step into your day with a stronger, more empowered mindset. Here’s how:

1. Strike a Power Pose

Your body language shapes how you feel. Stand tall, roll your shoulders back, and hold a “power pose” for two minutes. Whether it’s the classic Wonder Woman stance or a victorious arms-in-the-air pose, this simple shift can instantly boost your confidence and presence. Hey, I do the “Wonder Woman” one in the bathroom, so no one can see. 😉 Remember Amelia from Grey’s Anatomy? It was her power move!

2. Practice Positive Affirmations

Affirmations help rewire your brain for confidence. Try saying, “I am strong, capable, and worthy” or “I embrace this stage of life with joy and courage.” Speak them aloud while looking in the mirror for maximum impact. Learning how to feel confident over 50 is all about stopping that negative self-talk too.

3. How to Feel Confident Ove 50 with Style

Confidence often comes from feeling good in your skin. Put on a bold lipstick, wear your favorite outfit, or style your hair differently. A quick refresh can work wonders for self-esteem. 4. Breathe with Purpose

Deep, intentional breathing calms your nerves and grounds you. Try the 4-7-8 technique: inhale for four seconds, hold for seven, and exhale for eight. This resets your nervous system and helps you feel more in control. I do this every day.

5. List Your Wins

Jot down three things you’ve accomplished in the past week—big or small. Whether you helped a friend, completed a project, or got outside for a walk, acknowledging your achievements reminds you of your strength.

6. Listen to an Empowering Playlist

Music has the power to lift your mood instantly. Create a playlist filled with uplifting songs that make you feel strong, capable, and ready to take on the world. Just tell Alexa or Siri, “play uplifting music please!” Works for me every time. My secret tune? Dancing Queen by Abba!

7. Walk with Confidence

Movement affects mindset. Take a brisk walk, focusing on strong posture and purposeful strides. Walking with confidence helps you feel confident. Walk outside and you get the healing effects of nature too!

8. Say No (and Mean It)

Confidence is about boundaries. Take a moment to practice saying no to something that drains you. Reaffirming your needs and limits builds self-respect and assertiveness. I have a real problem with this one. I am a caretaker and supporter by nature. But you have to recognize that when you are overwhelmed, you aren’t your best for anyone around you either. And you deserve to take care of you first. You deserve it. Learn how to feel confident over 50 by standing up for your needs too.

9. Visualize Success

Close your eyes and picture yourself succeeding at something you’ve been hesitant about. Whether it’s acing a presentation or stepping into a social event with ease, visualization boosts belief in your own abilities.

Smiling triggers the brain to release feel-good hormones like dopamine and serotonin. Even a fake smile can trick your mind into feeling more positive and self-assured. It’s true, try it! If you can’t do that, pull up YouTube and type in funny animal videos. 

Confidence After 50: Own It!

Confidence is a mindset, not a number. By incorporating these quick, powerful habits into your daily routine, you’ll start learning how to feel confident over 50 in no time. Which of these will you try first?
